Art senior school 1

Welcome to Senior School

Our Senior School curriculum offers breadth of opportunity, with pupils introduced to the greater depth of subjects and provided with suitable levels of challenge that helps build the skills required at GCSE and A level.

In addition to the core of Maths, English, Modern Foreign Languages and Science, pupils become competent in all areas, from Art & Technology to Computer Science, Drama, Humanities, Music and PE. Every individual has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

Academic study lies at the heart of Thetford Grammar School. We are determined to give our students every opportunity to make the most of their abilities through a combination of well taught lessons, a wide range of clubs and extra-curricular activities, a supportive learning environment and by enabling students to take responsibility for the academic direction they wish to take.

Extra-curricular activities including LAMDA for Drama, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, ABRSM for Music, and Arts Award give pupils the chance to turn their interests into additional qualifications, many of which are highly attractive to universities and employers. A broad clubs and societies programme, built around pupils’ intellectual curiosity, help foster a culture of education being an end itself.

Most pupils will study between nine and eleven GCSEs, with optional subjects selected in Year Nine, and some elements of these courses begun at that time in preparation for Years Ten and Eleven. Our GCSE results are consistently excellent, competitive not only within East Anglia, but nationally.

During GCSE studies, we help our pupils see the connections between these qualifications and their further studies at A level and beyond.
