Sports Weekly Roundup
On Monday 22nd January, the 6th Form boys Football team hosted Abbey College Cambridge. It was a tight game in blustery conditions.
In the first half, Abbey College took the lead from the penalty spot. Elliott and Finn both went close from free kicks, only to be denied by some excellent saves by the opposition keeper. In the second half, TGS kept fighting and got their reward when Noah was fouled in the box and Elliott slotted home the penalty into the corner.
With the game set to end in a draw, TGS broke forward and Elliott was played through 1 on 1 with the keeper and calmly slotted the ball between the goalkeepers legs and into the back of the net to win the match 2-1, much to the delight of the watching fans.
Ollie was solid in goal, Tiger, Noah, Josh and Harry defended heroically. Finn, the Team Captain, Tom, Brayden and Dan bossed the midfield and Elliott and Harry were dangerous up front. Nathan and Alex also contributed well off the bench. Elliott was Man of the Match.
On Wednesday 24th January, the Year 7 and Year 8 A & B Netball teams hosted Glebe House. The A team won 14 - 0. Alexia was Captain and Glebe voted Elysia the Player of the Match. The B Team drew 7 - 7. Ella was captain and Glebe voted Erin the Player of the Match. Well done to all the players for taking part.

Artist of the Month - January 2024
A huge well done to Ella B in Year 7 for her recent drawing work in her Art lessons. Ella's topic work on 'tone and form' has covered drawing 3D objects using ellipses, as well as tonal pencil techniques. Ella's shiny coffee pot showcases her skills in scumbling, blending and highlighting. Fabulous work, Ella!

What a festive week we’ve had at TGS. From carols at a local care home to our annual trip to the Panto. Our Prep School have been busy with their Christmas Production and the Senior School performed Play in a Day! Friday we had our Prep and Senior School Christmas Services, with the School Choirs and Staff Brass Band. A special thank you to our special guests including members of our Advisory Board, members of the OTA, the Mayor of Thetford and the Reverend Peter Herbert. A big thank you to Jack and his team for also providing us with a delicious Christmas Lunch!
Watch this space next term as we share photos from these events.
On behalf of everyone at Thetford Grammar School we would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing what next term brings!

Last night Harriet in year 9 was invited to attend Nourishing Norfolk's one year celebration with the High Sheriff of Norfolk to celebrate the work they have achieved in their network of food hubs across the county.
These food hubs offer people who are struggling with the rising costs of living a local place to shop on a budget and the chance to access the support they need to thrive. Harriet has been a volunteer for nearly a year in the social supermarket in the Charles Burrell Centre helping run the shop each week.
'Responsibility' is one of our school's community values. There are lots of ways that we can demonstrate this quality, and showing a responsibility towards one's community, especially during difficult times, is perhaps one of the most important.
There are currently 15 hubs across Norfolk with a goal to open 10 more by June. To achieve their goal, they need Norfolk people to help Norfolk people. There are many ways you can help support, follow this link to find out more:

"The support and camaraderie that I experienced at TGS allowed me the confidence to pursue a career path that at times felt out of reach, and in my opinion that is the greatest service a school can provide a student. I am forever indebted!” #supportyourschools#tgstogether

We asked our Alumni to share how their time at TGS helped build their professional lives. "Without the support, extra hours and the personal touch offered by the teachers at TGS, my story could have been very different. Thank you, TGS!” #supportyourschools#tgstogether

Year 11 had a great first afternoon on their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Expedition in the Yorkshire dales on Thursday 11th April. They did a four mile familiarisation walk around Malham. On Friday they set off on the first full day of the Expedition. All are doing well.
