🇨🇳 Year 6 are studying China in their Topic work this term. They are looking at what impact China's past has had on today's world. 📄 The pupils learnt that the invention of paper and the water clock date back to China's early days. In their Science lesson the pupils did an experiment whereby they tested four different types of paper for Opacity, Absorbency, Strength and ink. The aim was to see which type of paper was the most durable and the conclusion was photocopying paper, they then went on to make a water clock using plastic cups. 🕰 The pupils enjoyed this experiment and decided that these clocks were not an accurate way of telling the time. There were too many variables!!

🇬🇧🇨🇳Prep school have welcomed two new friends in school today. Jason and Jeremy are on an exchange programme from China and are here to experience life at TGS. They will be working on their English skills with the help of our wonderful pupils and staff, and gaining an appreciation for school life in another country. We wish them an enjoyable time with us!

📚 Year 7 have been throwing themselves into the world of Norse mythology this term. They have begun reading Neil Gaiman’s retellings, beginning with the birth of the Gods and the Frost Giants and unravelling the events of three Norse gods: Thor, Loki and Odin. 🖊️ Their work has involved unpicking the personality traits of key characters, using evidence from the text to support their points. They have done this through a variety of techniques starting with extending their high-quality oral responses, moving to text annotation, and also utilising Padlet to share a response electronically and receive live feedback. 💬 Year 7 took on their extended homework project to research a myth or legend from any time period or location with gusto, and enjoyed displaying their finished pieces, providing critical feedback to each other. More recently they have worked on their persuasive writing skills, designing a gift for the gods and presenting their work to the rest of the class. ⭐️ Fantastic work Year 7!

This morning in our whole school assembly we were celebrating the Chinese New Year 🐍. A huge well done to our international students who very kindly explained to us about their celebrations and what it means to them. We also had a special guest arrive…. The Dragon 🐉! Thank you Year 6!
